What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese word that is defined in two parts:

"Rei" meaning universal power, higher wisdom, the One, the source or "all that is".

"Ki" meaning the life force energy which emanates from the "Rei".

The translation of Reiki, then, is Universal Life Force Energy.

Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing and well being of the Mind, Body and Spirit.  It is "Ki" that gives life to each cell in your body.  If there is blockage or restriction within your energy system you are vulnerable to illness or dis-ease.  Blockages may occur acutely as in an accident, or happen over time as may be the case with a chronic illness.

The human body (including the energy system) is designed to repair itself from injury or dis-ease. Reiki helps elicit the relaxation response, which counters the damaging effects of stress, bringing balance back to the body. This breaks up restrictions or blockages in the energy system, allowing the body to return to its natural state of well being. Since the restrictions or blockages may have built up over time, it may take a number of sessions to return the body back to equilibrium.

The Reiki energy does not come from the practitioner - rather through her from the Source.  The practitioner does not have control over the outcome of the session.  The Reiki energy, because it comes from the Source "Rei", is divinely guided and goes where it is needed the most.  Because of this there is no limit to what Reiki can accomplish.  Some reported effects are relaxation, stress reduction, pain relief, and healing of ailments - just to name a few.

We are all made up of energy, and we all have the ability to transfer it to one another.  What makes Reiki different from other forms of energy work is the attunement.  A Reiki attunement is received from a Reiki master during a Reiki class.  This attunement makes adjustments to the energy system of the student, allowing them to channel the Universal Life Force Energy and links the student to the Source of the energy.  After a Reiki attunement, all the new practitioner needs to do is intend for the Reiki to flow.  One of the blessings of Reiki (and there are many) is that you can use it for yourself.  All you need to do is intend that Reiki flow to you and it does.

It is important to note that Reiki does not replace traditional medicine, nor will it interfere.  Reiki will enhance the effects of medical treatments and help alleviate symptoms that may occur as a result.

Please join us on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 for a healing circle or Reiki share. All are welcome, regardless of Reiki and healing experience. This circle is provided as a service to the community free of charge.
